I am glad Dual Star is there,,,I am just amazed at their pomp n hubris and that they think anyone believes all their B/S!!! Another dual Start exclusive item,,,,yeah right!

The point is they want someone to come along and write them a check for a buttload of money. Then, they can do a full market launch of the diesel bike. Here's my question- How much money do they make on the bike (meaning everything but the engine)? I doubt Kawasaki will sell them KLRs for much (if anything) under dealer invoice, because every KLR that F1 sells is one not sold through a Kawi dealership. So, why not dodge the ENTIRE DOT and EPA question, and sell a diesel engine kit for "agricultural use". Then, they don't have to warranty the entire bike, in fact since the diesel will be installed by someone else, they can get away with a more limited warranty. Devon TLrydr@... wrote:

Off road vehicles must meet California emissions standards as of this year, or is that 2006? Only racing vehicles are still exempt from emissions standards. This is why you can buy 2-stroke motocross bikes in California, but not 2-stroke enduro bikes -- the former are classed as racing equipment and may not be legally used outside a race course in California (all off-road vehicles must have a valid California off-road vehicle registration in California). Since California is probably 1/3rd of the market for these guys... -E

The spark plug and top of piston on my stock A17 indicated a too lean fuel/air mixture. I had already backed out the idle pilot screw to 3 turns (which considerably reduced engine temp). Yesterday, I shimmed up the carb needle with 2 radio shack #4 washers (about .02" each). Take care to file the diameter of these washers down a bit so there is no chance they will bind in the white plastic thingamading. I immediately felt it. More powerfull and smoother acceleration and the "popping" upon hard de-acceleration is gone. If later removal of spark plug still indicates a lean state, time to increase main jet. Kevin A17
