Devon,
Check the archives under "countershaft" and maybe
"shim kit". But basically, the 95's and earlier used a
different mounting system than the later models. The 2
bolt retention system uses a keyed plate to lock the
sprocket into place on the countershaft. The Kawasaki
plate can sometimes be loose or worn so that the
sprocket floats a little bit on the shaft splines. It
is the opinion of some that it is supposed to be loose
and the opinion of others that it should be tight.
Some people have reported galled and/or worn splines
from loose sprockets. Anyway, if you want the sprocket
tight on the shaft, Jakes shim kit will do it. He
includes a replacement keyed plate which is heavier
duty and thicker than the OEM. Also included are a
bunch of shims that you can use to tighten things up
even more. He said he uses a .004" shim on his. I
haven't installed mine yet so I can't tell you anymore
than that at this time.
