noises driving me nuts

Post by Jim Barthell » Thu Sep 21, 2000 6:07 pm

I once had a "light tinny" noise.... it was the nut from the rear engine mount rattling around in a flat area it had fallen into. It was fairly easy to find put it in neutral, stand next to the bike and rev it up. If that's the problem you'll hear it and be able to zoom in on it. Jim Barthell

Interesting. I guess this can be looked at two different ways; 1) Very possible it's an oil related issue. 2) With everything else in the engine looking good except for those noted parts, maybe there was an original manufacturing problem, or the metal wasn't spec'd from Kawi as a strong enough of a grade. Does that make sense? One bearing going bad and all the rest being good would leave me to believe the bearing itself was the bad apple, but without the shop manual in front of me now to see what other bearings are down there in that area, I could just be talking out my rump. One of those things that will never be answered. All you can do is make a decision based on what you know and go with that. Were you having any associated shifting problems up until the blow up? Extra clunkiness compared to the average? TTYL Karl
