rear wheels rotation rates

Post by FDShade@aol.com » Wed Mar 09, 2005 1:32 pm

Jacked up the rear of the car, started engine and put into gear. The LF wheel rotates much faster than the RR - Is that normal ? Jim Shade, West Covina CA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Well, since "LF" means "Left Front", no it's not normal. You must have the world's only four wheel drive TC. :-) Sorry, I couldn't resist. Assuming you meant to write "LR", it's not unusual. All things being absolutely perfect it shouldn't happen, but things are seldom absolutely perfect. It just means there is more restance to rotation on the right side than on the left side, so the differential action speeds up the left wheel RPM an amount equal to the amount the right wheel is slowed down. Could be a rubbing brake shoe or a stiff bearing. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. TC TC6710 XPAG7430 NEMGTR #2271 Cub Hill, Maryland fold@bcpl.net

Probably the brakes are adjusted slightly tighter on the right side. Since the differential is not locked and is not limited slip, the wheels can and should rotate independently. -----Original Message----- From: FDShade@aol.com [mailto:FDShade@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 1:31 PM To: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: [mg-tabc] rear wheels rotation rates Jacked up the rear of the car, started engine and put into gear.
