Anyone involved in racing cars, even vintage MG's would be well advantaged to familiarize themselves with "Racing & High Performance Tires by Paul Haney. Excerpts have been published in the past. Note that it seems not well understood or publicized that rain tires should be substantially narrower than convention race tires where largest possible footprint contact patch is desirable. Narrow wet weather tires provide more load on road surface contact patch increasing tire adhesion, grip, less water to evacuate, less slippery surface texture, all of which mitigate hydroplaning potential, all of which extend available traction. I had a set of the first racing rain tires direct from the 1963 South African Grand Prix, made by Goodyear. I worked at Gofaster the Goodyear race tire distributor for the north east USA, before Penske  acquired the distributorship. 13" rain tires with the chevron type tread fit to my Spitfire with widened rims! John Norwood was the owner & Bill Baldwin ran the operation. They were also involved with the Renault Gordini & Alpine Sebring entries, What a blast to drive on the street as a kid!
