Battery charging
As most of our cars are positive earth does this make any difference when
using a portable battery charger? or is this a stupid question?

Well Charles, no and well............

Just make sure your charger is set to the 12 volt position (if you
have a choice) and make sure the plus (red) cable end is hooked to the
plus side of the battery. The negative (black) cable is hooked to the
negative terminal of the battery and all will be fine.

It doesn't matter. Always connect the charger's positive cable to the battery's positive post, and the charger's negative cable to the battery's negative post, no matter whether the car is wired positive or negative ground. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Badger, you've gone too far. If the guy didn't know how to connect his battery charger then he deserved an instructive reply, not a snide comment. I enjoy your warped sense of humor as much as the next guy, but poking fun at an automotive amateur who wants to learn says a lot more about you than it says about him. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Re: Battery charging
Okay, sorry Chip. The red one goes on the side with the little PLUS sign, like this..(+). The black one goes on the side with the MINUS sign, like this...(-). The other end with either 2 or 3 little prongs sticking out goes into the thingy on the wall. The left shoe goes on your left foot and the right shoe goes on your right foot. The point I am trying to make in my excessively rude way is simply that if a guy can't figure out how to hook up a friggin battery charger maybe he should just get back into his Toyota. Re: Battery charging
I take no offence from Badger and its not that silly a question as I recall
in Chemistry lessons that the electricity is generated by reactions between
the plates so there could have been a difference.

Badger, hard as it may be for you to remember back that far, even you were a novice once upon a time. I'd guess that was in the very ancient past, judging by your claims in past messages that the most sophisticated item in your tool box is a heavy rock and your TC is held together by all manner of unconventional fasteners. And of course we believe EVERYTHING you tell us...> The point I am trying to make in my excessively rude way is simply > that if a guy can't figure out how to hook up a friggin battery > charger maybe he should just get back into his Toyota. > A rude Badger who says it like it is.
