a cool event next weekend in Cambria, CA from www.horizonsunlimited.com Lots of KLR riders there, cool authors and film makers who travel on 2 wheels, interesting workshops and seminars I have been to 3 of the HU events in Colorado and 2 this one in Cambria last year. [b]From: [/b]mark harfenist [b]Subject: [/b][b]Re: KLR shock in Guatemala[/b] [b]Date: [/b]October 12, 2013 12:19:18 PM PDT [b]To: [/b]DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com I got a new KLR shock in Antigua a couple of years ago.  It was remarkably easy (although about US$500).  Took a day to get the part from Guatemala City.  This was the easiest place to find KLR parts south of the border and north of Bogota.   I'm not home right now and can't remember the details.  There is a motorbike rental/guided tour shop in the northern part of town, very well known and long-established, which also happens to serve very good coffee out front; they connected me with their favorite mechanic just across the river.  Owned by, IIRC, an Australian.  Asking around ought to turn them up pretty quickly, since it's a small town.   Otherwise, at least one and maybe two Antigua mechanics have been posting on the Latin America forum of ADVrider.com.  One posted within the last couple of days, so simple to find him.   If your friend is on a long trip, I'd suggest staying away from the rebuild specialists if he's got an original shock.  People are always rebuilding that "non-rebuildable" shock in Latin America, and it never lasts very long.  Probably you (and he) already know that, but I thought I'd pass it along. People generally work on Saturdays, but not Sundays.  Probably your friend can be on his way Monday without undue stress, but certainly Tuesday.  You could do worse than hang around Antigua for a couple of days.   Hope that's helpful.
