center stand anomaly ???
OK, I wonder if any of you have ever had the following happen to your KLR's Center Stand, assuming you have a center stand........... seven (7) years ago, I installed an after-market center stand, I think the brand is Afrika. A few days ago I noticed that the left foot peg was a tad loose, when I tightened it, I noticed that one of the two bolts that secures the center stand and the foot peg seemed stripped. I figured I'd have to take care of that soon. Today, when I went out to ride, the foot peg fell off! Fell right off! Seems that both of the bolts were stripped. The bolts, the foot peg, and the center stand show signs of friction wear. My guess is that over time, when I pushed up to get the KLR on the center stand, the center stand would move enough to wear out the bolts threads. No big deal, I have to re-thread and install new bolts, but have any of you all seen that before?

Rather common issue. I don't know if it is because of the center stand
though. The nuts in the frame mounted box tend to strip out. The load from
standing on the pegs far outweighs the load of the center stand. I cut the
face of the box off the right side, fabbed a new plate and tacked two (2)
nuts stacked on each hole to increase the the amount of threads engaged.
Welded the assembly back on and no more problem. Probably will repeat on
the left side some day just for insurance.

center stand anomaly ???
The footpeg bolts are a notorious weak point on the KLR. The addition of a center stand places them under even more stress.

I remember several years back , that someone welded the whole mess to the frame. I guess that's one way.

If you have not looked up r's pictures below, look them up and the rest as well.
Tell us about this

and how you used two sticks to change a front tire.
You must be unlucky.
I only get rear flats. cough.
IRT to your comments about the footpeg bolts;
I refer to them as one year bolts. = anything after one year, you are lucky....
I use a hex head, grade 8.8 available at Fastenall installed at 18ft/lbs.
BONUS ROUND!
Buy an extra set and put them in your tool box. They will fail (again) and it is a drag to have to go find a 35cent bolt to make the pig fly again.
DAILY DOUBLE
If one bolt has failed, replace them all.
by the way, nice work on the nut replacement.

After over 40 years and no flats out in the remote lands, I had 2 in 2011
and 1 this last year. The picture has a story...was turned back from the
intended destination due to a fire so I took an alternate route. Lost the
front tire and took to patching the tube using one long heavy stick for a
jack and one smaller for the support. Was getting REAL dark, by mid
afternoon. The fire had taken a run and ran right through were I fixed the
flat that evening. Now I carry both new HD tubes as well as patch material.
2nd flat even more remote a couple weeks later was due to poor prior patch
job, but had a new HD tube this time.
