I had an interesting fellow in to my shop this week on a KLR that had a Versys motor. At first glance I couldn t tell it had a different engine as it looked like a factory job for sure. You can read all about this build on ADV Rider: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=797568 I was totally blown away by the craftsmanship on this bike. The owner spent many hours and dollars getting this just right and it shows. He let me ride his bike and everything you d expect with a modern fuel injected twin was there. What a HOOT! I had a bunch of other friends in my shop at the same time and we all got to go to lunch together. It was a fun time with a bunch of motor-heads. That is pretty nifty Fred. A friend was doing that conversion for a guy and got it in there after modifying the frame for the oil filter. Looks like your guy put 2 new downtubes from some where around the steering head. Location of the fuel injection was a problem for my friend. As an owner of a Versys also, I can't imagine a KLR with that lively engine. Kawaskis should do that with a KLR (still keeping the old single version maybe) and call it KLR S (for Super). DR650 with a DR350 gearbox. (Actually, I have never felt the need for another gear on my DR, or on my KTM, for that matter. Neither do you hear guys crying out for more gears on the various fora for those bikes.)

Idle out of adjustment, sticking slide, sticking cable or sticking butterfly are all possibilities, but I think an air leak is most likely.
