I started the WD-40 regiment when I purchased my new 03 KLR. I noticed the rollers gettin real loose at 10,000 miles. Pretty sure I washed all the factory lube out! I was sure I needed something more. I started usin that nasty whale sperm PJ shtuff. It turned black on everything from rear wheel to back of my shirt! Hell, I found it on my windshield! I started usin clear chain wax and with no mess whatsoever, kept my shtuff goin for 20,000 miles on the new 03. Course the front sprocket had to be replaced a few times, which is to be expected. I'm not sure what the dupont lube costs, but I like this stuff from cycle gear: http://www.cyclegear.com/dept.cfm MOTOREX DIRT CHAIN LUBE 622, LARGE - $6.79 They make little cans for travel as well. I'm not married to any brand of gear, always looking for the better stuff for the same or less cash....

Ok, maybe I'm taking the thread out of context, but I've seen suggestions ranging from WD40 to bicycle lube for lubing our chains. I'm hearing guys worry about o-rings that you could probably dip in Nancy Pelosi's bat-testicle soup and survive. Here's the good news! This thread is just in time for a product designed with the motorcycling crowd, particularly us off roaders, in mind. It's cheap, a single can usually runs about 6 bucks and will last a whole season. It's relatively new on the market, probably within the last fifty years or so. Due to this recent birth to the biker culture, it is hard to get, found only at any motorcycle shop or bike related internet dealer. Despite the radical means required to purchase it, it's well worth the effort. Are ya ready? I'll let you in on the secret....... How the heck should I know. Never used it, but it's made by Bel-Ray and it should be good, shouldn't it? I use Silkolene Pro-Chain. I spray it in a cup and apply it to a warm chain with a brush and let it dry. Road dirt sticks to the chain real well. I clean the chain occasionally with WD-40 and a tooth brush. I don't think I'll ever be the one to replace the chain so I couldn't tell you how long my chain will last. Long enough, I suppose. Alan
