<><><><><><> <><><><><><> CV carbs are very simple and easy to work on. I don't think there is a carb rebuild kit available but the good news is normally all you have to do is clean the jets and carb orifices. You can do the cleaning with the carb in place by rotating it bottom to the right. You need to disconnect the choke lever from the handlebars and make sure the cable has slack at the left side of the carb. Many times the plastic choke nut on the left side of the carb is broken when rotating the carb if the tech isn't careful. There is a metal replacement available. Maybe Fred carries them, I don't know. But he carries about anything a guy could need for a KLR so check with him if you need parts. There is a spring, washer and o-ring above the idle mixture screw and they can easily be lost or tough to get out of the orifice. The needle jet sometimes is lost by inexperienced techs. It might stick in the carb body when the main jet and holder are removed only to fall out later and not be noticed. As you may imagine, the engine has a running issue when this happens. Some folks reassemble the needle in the slide incorrectly and again it causes running issues. Easy to correct and prevent if the tech is observant taking the carb apart. The slide and diaphragm is expensive from Kawasaki at about $130 but also available from Harley for about $50. Ask for a slide and diaphragm for a 2000 Sportster and you should get the correct part. Sometimes you hear about techs having issues getting the diaphragm to seat correctly after cleaning the carb. I think if you keep carb cleaner off the diaphragm it won't be so tough. I like to use Silicone Plumbers grease to lube the o-rings. Remember just a little will go a long way. Silicone grease will clog a jet and fuel will not dissolve it. So be careful how you use it. The Clymers Manual has a wonderful section on the KLR carb. Hope this is helpful.
