I would also scan any "bike for sale" listings in the local papers.
Sometimes these idiots aren't too bright. If you have a couple
bucks, it might not hurt to place a "wanted to buy - KLR" ad and see
if anything comes of it. If they didn't take it to some distant land,
they may just try and paint it and unload it for some quick cash.

Please post the VIN and engine#. I see parked KLRs all the time, if I find your
bike I'll try and put my lock on it and call the cops. A photocopy of your
police report would keep me out of trouble in case someone who had it didn't
 know it was stolen.

My 01 KLR650 was stolen Thursday night Aug 18th. It's an 01 with the
green plastics repainted black, with the gas tank still silver. Tall
smoked Kawi shield. Home-made muffler that looks like crap. A set of
small driving lights on the fairing. Plate # VM 19 Wisconsin Vetrans
plate. Any info, please call Fond du Lac city police at 920 322 3700

Sounds like it was a real gem!

How could you possibly expect a thief to resist?

Good luck in getting it back in good shape.

			Fil, papalobster,

Get notices out on Craigslist for your area. Also post a thread on advrider and klr650.net if you haven't already (they really should have a "Stolen" forum category if there isn't one already).
Pictures, VIN, distinguishing marks/accessories, when/where you last saw it are all very helpful.

You may also want to check out
http://www.stolencarreports.com/

I had my KLR stolen last month that was luckily recovered the next day, but I still felt like crap when I looked where my bike usually is only to see an empty space (with an oil stain).

I hope you both get your rides back (intact) and I hope they find who did it.

So what's the M.O. in everyone else's area? Do they bounce it using a truck real quickly?

 Josh

The KLR had a few mods that made the bike fit me (a big guy). Super
pegs, tall windscreen, switch on the left handle bar replaced with
one that allows you to turn off the head light and flash to pass,
tail rack, Happy Trails rack for Givi saddle bags, just noticed I had
a flag decal on the left front, dohicky redone, stainless steel brake
lines, currently has Kenda 270 knobbies, and a few other things I
can't think of right now. The last few digits of the VIN are
DA05427. The seat has been redone but you would have to look very
close to notice. I took it to a boat place around here and they put a
sheet of stiff foam under the stock foam and then stiched it back
up. Looks stock but really felt good on my butt.

I've attached some photos of the bike. First two are from my Alaska
trip and the last one with the cabin in the background is in Copper
 Canyon, Mexico.

Thanks for keeping an eye out.

 Take care,

John Hargis (Cedar Creek Lake area)

Just noticed I can't attach photos to this e-mail. If you will
respond to me at john.hargis@... then I can respond with
 photos.

And I even remembered to take the zip lock bag I had over the carb boot off so it wasn't sucked into the engine when I cranked it!

			Hey Guys,

My 2004 KLR got stolen from the East Village in NYC Sunday night. Cops called me today and recovered it in Bed Stuy and arrested 2 guys who were in the process of stripping it in an alley.

Mainly cosmetic damage - the dumped it and wrecked the left foot peg... and also the front plastic fairing around the headlight is missing along with the turn signals... and the ignition cylander is hanging out - but hey at least I was able to ride it home from the precinct.

Wondering if anyone has the plastic part for sale? would rather not buy one new...

 Jake
