No big deal right? Unless you're in some deep mud ruts and the mud clogs the peg. Then the peg doesn't return to it's proper position and when you go to put your foot back on the peg, you miss and either stuff your foot into the mud or accidentally stand on the brake lever/shift lever. All of these scenarios *could* end poorly for your foot/ankle/leg depending on your speed and the terrain... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, James Douglas wrote: > But if it's that's muddy will the springs work? > Hellalot better than gravity... starter lockout switch - clutch handle

Post by spike55_bmw » Wed Aug 24, 2011 7:52 pm

My clutch handle (2006 KLR) took a beating the other day, and from that point on, the clutch handle safety switch did not work. I was forced to go back to neutral to restart if it stalled at a light. I opened it up and eventually removed the clutch lever. The problem appears that the "peg" end of the plastic contact sliding mechanism was broken off (I have all pieces). Because the peg-end is now too short, it will not properly engage the indexing hole in the clutch lever and move with the handle. Besides disabling the system or buying a new clutch lever perch with a new safety switch for $50+, does anyone know if a replacement slider (plastic portion, I have the metal contact and spring) is available?
