For while now, I've smelled the faint odor of hot coolant occasionally after I parked my 09' (13,600 miles).
Sunday, I took the forward side panels & fuel tank off after a long ride and attempted to trace the smell.
After checking every hose clamp, I saw a very small, tell-tale white stain on the right under engine frame rail.
The dot of white was no bigger than this letter "O" with a few flecks of spray nearby.
I looked around some more and found a faint, white-ish stain around the water pump weep hole. =(
No coolant lingering, thankfully. I'm wondering if this tiny spit of coolant is worth worrying about?
The coolant was changed a few months ago with motorcycle specific stuff.
I read online the procedure for changing the seals on the pump and wasn't too thrilled
at the prospect of going through all that for a 1/2 drop of coolant every once in a while.
Anyone else experience this?
Are my water pump seals' days numbered?
TIIA,
eddie

I have an aviation story that I tell at times like this: Helicopters often give tell-tell signs that it is 'sick', It may be vibrations, loss of systems pressures, loss of electrical systems, leaks, or parts departing the aircraft. That invitation = "Please land soon and make me better." or I am going to BITE you. Helicopters kill people because the pilot refused the invitation to land. If you have real leak, it will not heal itself...might not get worse for a while, but we are pretty sure, it will not get better. cough. It sounds like to me, your KLR is inviting you 'to land.' Ignore the invitation at your own peril. wink. Why, Just last week, I failed to heed my own advice and got to do a remote location tire change...ah that slow leaker is not that bad.... uh, yeah, it is. and so it goes. revmaaatin.> I read online the procedure for changing the seals on the pump and wasn't too thrilled > at the prospect of going through all that for a 1/2 drop of coolant every once in a while. > Anyone else experience this? > Are my water pump seals' days numbered? > TIIA, > eddie

Well I just happened to notice it had more misquitoes and black flies than my garage; not to mention, it had more dirt, and one less harbor freight tire machine located next to the babbling creek and babbling KLR rider that looked just like me!
