Barry, A used 07' with only 3k miles? It's barely broken-in! There are list members with tens of thousands (30k-40k+)of miles on their bikes. List: Who thinks they might have the highest mileage KLR here? =) eddie 09' with 13,600(s)miles.

Oh, oops. I thought he meant MPG. I have 26,000 and change on my 2009 and it shows no sign of getting "tired". I do my maintenance regularly and use high-quality full synth oil. I read somewhere that a particular KLR started to develop piston slap at about 90,000 miles. At that point you can put in a 685 kit and you'd be good for 90,000 more. The 685 kit costs about 350 bucks and machining is ??? but I can't imagine it would be too terribly much. Other than maybe the SV650, the KLR is about the best "bang for the buck" that you can get.

I have right at 20K, it uses no oil and is as strong as the day I bought it. I wouldn't think of selling due to it getting near warn out. I'll probably wear out before it does. Huntsville, AR [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have 54,000 on mine and it is running great but a friend had 83,000 on his. He babied his never really winding it up. I don't baby mine but with 3 bikes I haven't been riding it much. I use Shell Rotella 15 / 40 w Dino. My buddy with 83, 000 was going to overhaul his as it started using oil pretty bad. He added up the cost of new parts and what he could buy a used one for and decided to sell. He got $800 for his and bought a low milage one for 3 grand. His old one was the teal green one. He never washed it and I asked why? Ugly he said but he might wash the new red and silver one. Criswell Sent from my iPad

My A13 was sold with 82000 km, about 50K miles, and the 08 has a bit over 38000 on it, so far, (going up by 2000 next week end). Not a record, but a pretty good mileage, I think. DC DC

My A12 shows 47,000 miles on the clock, but I ran it for half a season qith the sreedo out of order, so the true mileage is probably in the neighborhood of 50K.

klr650 noises

The oil-burning "litmus test" with the stock muffler was at the rear fender. I would gauge engine health by looking there. Would use some brake cleaner on a rag to clean that area / start over again with another test period. Don R100, A6F

With a metal skid plate echoing and amplifying the normal racket of a thumper, who the hell can tell much by listening? I just maintain my KLR. Though some people apply truck be liner to metal skid plate which might allow you to catch some foreign noise. > > Now that I added a Jardine exhaust and wear earplugs; can't hear much at all except the smooth powerful bass tone. > > It is starting to use some oil but rarely see any smoke come out the exhaust. 34K > > J#3 >
