nklr - an open letter to the douchebag in the range rover

Post by Jeff Khoury » Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:18 am

I must admit that my frustrated action was technically not legal, per se. However, the driver had just simultaneously committed 4 citable traffic violations: Driving in the carpool lane with no passenger . Exiting the carpool lane in a restricted area . Failing to signal when changing lanes. Talking on a cell phone with no hands-free device. The latter 3 violations directly and negligently endangered my bodily safety. If I had been on the KLR (even my '09 with its upgraded brakes), I probably would have hit him. As luck would have it I was on my DL1000 with its wider front tire and twin-disc front brakes - in my opinion that was the only thing that kept me from making contact. As I said in the letter, I had not intended to break the mirror, rather just fold it up. But it is what it is and I'm definitely not going to lose any sleep over it from a moral point of view; he got off light. Others may disagree but man is a rationalizing animal and that's the way my mind rationalizes it. :-)

I have had numerous incidents over the years and I learn to stay aware as much as possible and it's pretty F'up that drivers can't do the same. What caught my eye was the Land Rover. Here in Dallas there are ton's of older women that drive these and furthermore lot's of women in large SUV's. When they approach a RR crossing they slow down as if they were driving a 30 year old Toyota Corolla which I always laugh at. Stupid bitch you are in a 80K truck and you don't need to slow down and go over a RR crossing at 5MPH! Well they are also probably on the phone! It should be illegal EVERYWHERE for anyone driving a car talking on the phone, illregardless if they have a headset, and the fine should be SO GREAT that folks would think about, *like $5000.00* when caught. Maybe then some of these idiots would pay more attention to driving and not where they are going 'shoe shopping' with the girls this afternoon! It would give the police some more money to have more officers and might stop this insane activity, well maybe slow it down! I would of let the person in the Land Rover catch up to me so that I practice all my 56 years of cussing! On 7/19/2011 1:08 AM, Jeffrey wrote: > > I had to sue someone (unlimited civil and won). Spare helmet through the windshield has the dual benefits of 1) probably not killing anyone and 2) plausible deniability! =-) Vik Banerjee threeohm@... www.thelazyrando.com

Several years past I read where someone in CA. was working to pass a law to pull one's phone records when involved in a traffic accident. Should that person have been on the phone at the time of the accident they would then be tried the same as DUI. Great idea, anyone heard of where this went?

May I add, and, when you do get out of the city, you are going to dodge suicidal deer who want to end it all by jumping in front of a KLR, or dogs that love KLR's so much that they try to catch them, or skunks who hate KLR's and want to spray them (the pink KLR's that is) and the occasional loose cow or pig. I think we all realize that it's not a matter of "if" we're going to get cur off / turned in front of / not seen by a motorist in a car, it's a matter of "when". Good for you for being on the ball enough to avoid the collision, Jeff, but unfortunately the mirror incident only will serve to piss the person off, and probably someone else will be the target of his anger at you. Please ride defensively, and try rise above the urge to get retribution in that fashion in the future. I know it's easier said than done. "Give us this day our daily ride, and forgive us our wheelies, as we forgive the dummies that cut us off. Lead us not into smashing their mirrors, but deliver us from road rage. For thine is the SIPDE, the Galfers, KLR for ever and ever". Can I get an AMEN? Thanks CA Stu A13 --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Jeff Khoury wrote: > > Hi. I'd like to introduce myself.
