Vik: You'll be a lot happier if you mount the eTrex up on the handlebar brace. You'll have to add several layers of additional rubber since that brace is thinner. Keep it more to the left since that's the hand you'll use to zoom in/out and schroll ahead. You should consider a 12VDC jack / external power chord too. The vibration will eventually "polish" the battery / contact interfaces and you'll lose power and your tracking. The power chord carries you through the whole ride. That's how I've used my eTrex Legend and now the Legend HCx for years. Don R100, A6F

Thanks for the feedback Don... I will eventually get around to wiring stuff into the new KLR. I have an Aerostich electric vest from my old KLR and I want to add heated grips as well as power the GPS. Vik: Yes, I used the same bicycle handlebar mount but added several layers of split hose to increase the diameter of the brace to gain grip. I disregarded the battery compartment cover since it only fits the original (underpowered) Legend (blue plastic). The other thing I always do is use the lanyard as a safety strap. I loop it around the right-side mirror then wrap it one time around the handlbar brace and brake line combo and then clip it into the handlebar mount. I've mis-clipped the GPS into the mount once or twice and it popped off. The lanyard saved the $180 unit. My handlebar mount and the auxiliary clip on the GPS unit also lost several "ears" over time and that contributed to it popping out of the mount. Had to replace both after 3 yrs of use. Garmin will supply a free / no shipping cost battery compartment clip when it breaks but you have to buy a new handlebar mount. Don R100, A6F PS: I'll post some pictures tonight = 1,000 words.

Hi Ian A pack that is similiar but smaller that is worth taking a look at is at the link below.... they do have several versions available, but I bought these. I have only used them enough to test them, short runs with just a few things in them...I'm trying to put together a couple trips later in the summer when they will get a good test....but the quality seems great, they seem easy to use and fit securely and they cost 90 bucks.
