quietest klr muffler?

Post by fw189uhu » Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:51 am

From reading on the net it appears the factory muffler is the quietest one available. Anybody know of one that is quieter? Thanks. Dave

quietest klr muffler?

Post by Jeff Khoury » Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:28 am

I don't think it's possible to get much quieter than that. At least on my bike, the stock muffler is quieter than the intake and the engine parts. I have two of them, one modded and one stock. I run the modded one most of the time but if I'm going to a fire- or noise-sensitive place I'll put the stock one back on. -Jeff Khoury From: "fw189uhu" To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 7:51:02 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Quietest KLR Muffler? Taking a Street Pilot GPSR along for the ride was quite worthwhile so as to be able to see two time clocks running at the same time (running and stopped time)...as you need to keep track of both and the GPSR gives you both at a glance. FWIw I did this ride as a prerequisite to entering a multi day endurance rally, the 02' Rendezvous starting in Puerto Penasco MX and ending 7 days later in Glenallen Alaska, but in referrence to the SS1000, all riders need to do this ride, for a unique riding experience you can only get, riding 1000 miles in 24 hours. For my chosen route, I started about 3 miles from home near I-75 between Ocala and Gainesville Fla. then ran up 75 to Atlanta then I-85 to Greenville SC, then interstate (26) to Columbia SC then on to I-95 then south 95 all the way to Daytona. State road 40 from Daytona to Ocala then 441 to my starting point on U.S.441 and CR 318 which doubledd as my finish. IMO it's wise to use mostly interstate roads for the saddlesore 1K. Why?, speed limits aren't an issue as it will be easy to complete the ride doing the speed limit. Riding mostly slower roads may pinch you for time later on and interstates generally are safer for travel as they usually afford better tarmac conditions. That said, others may have better and different ideas. Oh!, my time was-riding14 hours, stopped 3 hours, total 17 hours Best, Jake Reddick Fla. Always get married early in the morning. I absolutely love my KLR for many reasons and it can do nearly anything... but it's not the best choice of bike if you're trying to cover long distances in short periods of time. I've done a couple of 12-hour days in the saddle of my KLR and even with forethought and preparation It gave me a wicked case of monkey-butt. > > -Jeff Khoury > > > > From: "\"The Terror\"" > To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 6:45:34 AM > Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Outcome of Saddle Sore 10000 - IBA certification. > > > > > > > Recently, about 6 weeks ago I put a message out to the group to see if anybody had any used street tires to donate or sell at a cheap price.I had a group of 3 (Harley bagger,Concourse & another KLR) friends that were all interested in gaining membership to the Iron Butt association. The group prides themselves on being "The world's toughest riders" so I figured that this would be a worthy challenge.I entered "KLR sprockets" into google search and found a 16/40 sprocket combo that made a HUGE difference for what I was doing here.Roughly 500 rpm difference (lower) from stock in 5th gear almost seemed like the 6th gear that they forgot to put in at the factory.Well, other than a new Kenda K270 coming apart on me (thanks Westark Yamaha In Ft.Smith,AR for the KLR Oem Take-off) and a bearing going bad in the wheel.....it was a success!! 23hrs.& 30min. later! 1,029 miles. The documentation of the ride at every gas station...getting start/finish witne ss/odometer readings, etc. proved to be a challenge within itself. After the ride I mailed in all paperwork as required and then last week it came in the mail.My acceptance package from IBA.Surprisingly to me the official # of KLR's to have done this is VERY low.If YOU have ever considered this....you should do it.It was an experience of a lifetime. > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >
