swing arm/ jeff/fred
I've done a couple now. I don't drill vent or weep holes. I don't use vented seals, either. I think the 750 Vulcan may have the same seals as a KLR in a vented version but I haven't tried.
I use the OEM seals. I put teflon tape-wrapped set screws all over as plugs and use a single grease zerk for maintenance.
Probably overkill.

progressive shorty shock, install qs
Hi all- I got my new Progressive 465 shorty shock bolted in, using the two KLR-specific spacers, the correct torque values, etc. Two questions though:
1. Progressive gives you a little hook that works with a 3/8" socket handle to turn the preload adjusting and locking rings. I left the adjuster ring where Progressive put it (per their suggestion). But I can't tighten the lock ring without turning the adjuster ring too. I've got a huge pair of channelocks that would hold the adjusting ring still while I lock the lock ring, but their jaws are too wide to allow access to the lock ring, and they'd mash up the lock ring something fierce. I wrote Progressive asking for a second little hook, which I could bolt or weld a static handle to and use to hold the adjuster ring while I tighten the lock ring. Is there any easier solution that I'm overlooking?
2. I got a shockwears.com cloth cover for it. I couldn't see how it could be put on the shock after the shock was installed, so I thought I'd put it on, then install the shock. But the cover covers the preload adjuster rings. Once the bike is all back together, are you really supposed to be able to get in there to peel the cover off far enough to expose the rings, then get it refastened? I ended up leaving the cover off.
I'm wondering if the cover, being a standard length, is too long for my shorty shock, and that's why it covers up the rings. I'd like to protect this nice new expensive unit, just couldn't make the cover work.
Hoping for tips. Also hoping for some sunshine around here.

progressive shorty shock, install qs
Hi Jamie
I installed one of these a couple of years ago, got it from Fred, it is a very
close setup to what is on a KDX200 only better protection. I installed it with
one 1/4" bolt with the thought that if anything caught on it it would pull off
rather then cause any damage to the original part it is bolted to, but it's
still hanging in there and still keeping mud and rocks from damaging the
shock....Have a good one.....Greg

As to question 1: never mind... I should have thought before I wrote. I used a brass drift punch and a hammer this time, and I'll order a spanner like the Motion Pro 08-0029 for future adjustments.
Per Greg's suggestion, I may see if Fred wants to swap me the shock cover (which is obviously too high tech for me to understand) for wunnadose UFO mud guards...
