I have to change the front tire anyways so while I have apart I will look at speedo drive and cable.
I couldn't have been doing more than 85.
Any ideas what would cause that? I put in synthetic oil(in the motor) but it shouldn't make that much difference!

You were probably sucked into a 120MPH inter-galactic turbo, oil used
induced vortex and while applying the brake, rear only, it usually will
take me out of those! After being in these numerous time I switched oil
as it can become scary!
Where did I put my beer?

2006 shock adjustment
I am at 240lb, I leave it on #5 all the time . Just got back from a camping
trip on California Hwy49. Had to have close to flat ground to get the side
stand down. I'll be shopping for a heavier spring.

Hey ALL
At 255lbs, Should i just LEAVE it at #5 Always? (thats where I have it now.)
Plus Camping, tools, food, ETC. TRIP gear, now-N-then. (35-40lbs+-??)
Or do you guys Close to 255, find lower (3-4) without gear, ever better?

You want a higher number when you have a stiffer setting on your preload to help control the damping. Use a higher number with heavier loads. It is ramped and has five steps, starting over at the 1 position. Some preload adjusters have been known to fail and turning the adjustment does nothing. Be sure to turn this adjuster in a clockwise direction only since you can damage the adjuster by trying to turn it backwards. There is a rebound damper adjuster just under the lower edge of your shock spring. It has four positions and 1 or 2 is the standard setting. I look at the shock, and it is at "1". This surprises me, because I swear I increased it to "2" or "3" a while ago, but what the hell. I put a socket on it, and turn it and sure enough it comes out to almost "5". I decide to go "all the way" and BAM! it drops back to "1". This seems odd. So I try it again, two or three times. Same thing happens. What's up with that? Does any body know? For my next trick - I try to find a "damper" adjustment. The manual says it's on the bottom, but I can't find anything. Is there really a damper adjustment, or not? Your kind words are appreciated. Cheers! -- Robert P. <><><><><><> <><><><><><> J, My guess is there is dirt or junk or gunk between the magnet and the cup in the speedo head. They shouldn't have any physical contact and only move based on magnetism. If dirt or junk or gunk gets in there and contacts both sides it forces the cup to move until is physically stops. In some cases it breaks something. You can probably fix it pretty easily with a good cleaning. You might want to take a look at Wattman's site http://watt-man.xanga.com/ for instructions as to how to calibrate the speedo or install the temperature gauge overlay he sells. That will get you into the speedo area and then I bet you can figure it out. My suggestion is to disconnect your speedo until you take care of this issue. If it breaks you'll have to do just as much work and it will cost you money for a new/used speedo head. If you clean it you probably won't have to spend any money. I was just replacing a front tire yesterday, and in the process cleaned the
the old black gunk out of the speedo drive. I found myself wondering just
what the correct amount of grease is for that part? I put some on the gears
and on the rotating surfaces, but it seems there is a lot of empty space in
that assemble - it isn't supposed to be completely packed with grease is it?
