If you look on the bottom of the left column of our Yahoo web site, you will see a new link to our Chat Room. If you have never used a Chat Room before, you just type a message in the bottom window and hit Enter. Anyone else that is signed in to the Chat Room at that time will see your post and be able to reply instantly. If there are more than just a few users online at one time, the conversations can get pretty hectic and confusing. If you d like to see how this Chat Room works, meet me here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DSN_KLR650/chat tomorrow evening for FREDDY FRIDAY. I ll be glad to answer any questions about KLRs, about this list, about any motorcycle parts or about life in general. Should be lots of fun.
I ll try to be online this Friday (Feb 11) around 8pm mountain time.
See you then,
Fred

Has anybody seen this stuff?

"Unique Patented Technology
Soft-Touch Silicone Rubber That Moulds and Sets Permanently
Sticks to Aluminium, Steel Ceramics, Glass, Wood and some Fabrics + Plastics"
It was all the talk about goobering up cracked engine cases that made me think of it, but it is enough off track that I thought a new thread was in order. In comes in 5g amounts, wrapped in foil envelopes that cost about a buck and a half each if you buy 6 or 12. It comes from England , and you pay for postage on top of that, about five bucks. I saw it at my son's house, and he gave me a couple of packets. I had enough fun with them to order some for myself.
I don't know if it will resist petroleum products, or hold up well enough to patch an engine case, but the web site does show a gas tank repair. Fresh out of the packet it feels like modeling clay or epoxy putty. After about half an hour it sets up, and sets overnight to a tough, but possibly flexible consistently, stiffer than RTV, but not as hard as epoxy. Unlike epoxy, it does not need an activator: contact with air will cause it to set.
I have used it to replace missing nose pads on some beat-up old Randolph Aviators and on some reading glasses.I have also used it to repair some dog-damaged leather goods, a somewhat unsightly, but possibly durable repair. I have also used it to soften up the feel of a horribly uncomfortable cheap Chinese multi-tool. So far I have used it only on cheap or damaged stuff; I am not prepared to try to re-engineer the scales on one of my BenchMade folders, although I think the sellers would encourage such a thing.
I have to think there are some motorcycle-related uses for the stuff, like seat repair or an ergonomic improvement to a set of hand grips. Maybe some repairs to riding gear.
Has anybody else seen this stuff, or know anything about it?
