Anybody tried using run-flat foam in their tires? It seems this would be a good solution for off-road flats, but maybe I'm missing something? Dave

Dave...I've been running heavy duty tubes from Fred,  and Slime for the past three years and have yet to get a flat....And I ride the backroads of NM where the state plants are prickly pear, Lechugilla, and Mesquite....The Slime doesn't seems to hurt the balance on the highway as it gets evenly spread around the inside of the tube.....I still carry spare tubes and tire tools but I haven't had to use them on the trail for a while now.....Knock on WOOD !!!!   Mike   To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com From: dhk@... Hi Mike & Jeff Thanks for the quick responses! Obviously my intent to is to, as much as possible, "flat-proof" my KLR tires. What I had in mind is something like the Arnco Flatproofing system (http://arnconet.com/flatproofing/superfills/formulas/repneu2.htm#), which I know is used in many military tires. Don't know about the USMC KLRs, though. I had expected the solution to be some sort of polyurethane expanding foam spray. Mike, I'm fairly new to this list and don't know who "Fred" is, but the HD tubes sound like a good idea. Jeff, the Bib Mousse solution is new to me, but seems like an excellent idea. Currently I'm running my '09's original tires and the BMs work only with Michelins. My current tires are in excellent shape and I'd prefer to not change to Michelins if possible. I note the BMs are certified only to 80 mph, but online comments state guys in the Dakar race run them offroad at more than 80 all the time without problems. Several complaints about them quickly breaking also found online, but we must wonder whether those complainers installed the units incorrectly(?) I also see TireBalls at http://www.tireballs.com/ . Just run "Slime" in combination with super duty tubes. You'll have to remove half a tire with a discarded whale hook to get another flat.

Interesting about 'super duty tubes' as when I requested them installed on my KLR my tire guy insisted as I spent 80% on blacktop that it was not good. He indicated they would cause increased heat and premature tire ware? BS?
