To the Rev., Bill and Spike thanks for response. While it seemed like a good idea at first just dissembling periodically, greasing and cleaning may be the best plan. Thanks for setting me straight! Enjoy wrenching at times it's just getting started that's the hard part. Ride planning is a good motivation!

Monty:
The process of removing the rear swing-arm is aided by hanging the rear of the motorcycle from the garage rafters using a 'come-along' winch. As long as the rafters are sturdy enough, it is a safer way of keeping the bike from falling over but break lose all of the bolts / nuts while on the ground.
A center-stand can work too but the right-side foot-peg and rear brake lever need to be removed to allow access to the lower swing-arm bolt. Once that is off, the bike is a little unstable with the center-stand only connected on one side.
Good luck on whatever method you choose.

anyone interested in a klr?
I`m in Des Moines,IA. I`ve been pondering the idea of selling my 2005 KLR 650, with all the farkles.
I love my gravel road riding, but I need a bike thats more touring oriented. I can only have one bike. Touring on my KLR is not for me anymore. Getting too old?
Much longer story but I`ll leave it at that.
E-mail me if you wanna talk. Thanks.
