brittania fairing with dual hellas - huh?

Post by eddiebmauri » Sat Oct 23, 2010 7:29 am

Y'all hi, I have a question, I saw a for sale KLR that had a farkle called a "Brittania Fairing with dual Hellas". I have to admit that was new news to me? Who makes the Brittania Fairing with dual Hellas? How much is it? Are there any problems with the KLR's electrical system and the dual headlights? How much/many mods are needed to install, and is the weight anywhere near the stock fearing? Any info would be appreciated. Eddie M. (03' KLR660 - "la poderosa")

Anybody else see how that list owner is advertising their forum as the Original KLR Forum ?   Our KLR group is the oldest on the internet and has been around for almost 13 years.  http://www.xmission.com/pub/lists/klr650/archive/klr650.9802   Where s their proof?  Guess you can t believe everything you read on that site.   Fred     From: salinej1@... I used to be active on that site, but have pretty much given it up. The owner is a former pothead who dreams of becoming a cop. I don't know why a history of pot use in the distant past should queer a background check, but apparently he fears it will. Accordingly, he has devised a revisionist story about his drug-using days that says he was just a punk kid who bragged falsely about smoking reefer in order to get street cred. Perhaps coincidentally, his site has undergone a couple of cataclysmic upheavals over the years in which all his archives from the old days were lost. In any event, the .net site has been around for a long time, but not nearly as long as this one.

Attachments : I believe it was Hondo from the KLRworld site that had one of these on his bike for review.  Two different times I seen that bike in Moab and had to weld on this fairing s mounting frame because it was broke.  Otherwise it looks cool.  Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com   From: wonholly@yahoo.com Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2010 9:53 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com ; eddiebmauri@yahoo.com Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Brittania Fairing with dual Hellas - Huh?     This site  will help.... http://www.britanniacomposites.com/index.html> WVDoran Scottsdale, AZ --- On Sat, 10/23/10, eddiebmauri eddiebmauri@yahoo.com> wrote:

There are universal dual sport fairings with dual headlight setups available for less than $60 on Ebay. While not as cool or functional, has anybody tried one? These strap on to the forks. Jeffrey #3

-----Original Message----- From: Britannia Sent: Monday, October 25, 2010 1:22 PM To: Eckert, Christopher (Infrastructure Solutions Dept.) Subject: Re: What can you do for an 08 KLR Hi Chris, We have had many enquiries about the newer model KLR (almost since the day it came out !). We have done a study of it and unfortunately it is a good deal more complex than the original. We haven't abandoned the idea yet, but here are the conclusions we reached : 1) The design has to incorporate new tank shrouds which would make it more expensive and difficult to work around existing aftermarket protection bars. 2) To offset the shroud cost, we would probably retain the OEM lights which seem to be OK, if not as good as the Hellas we currently use. 3) The dash system would be more complex in order to retain the OEM instruments (but do-able) 4) Some of the paint finishes on the early ones are impossible for us to replicate in a molded finish, so they would have to be painted (more cost !) So, all in all it would be a big undertaking by comparison with say, our latest Mirage 2 fairing for the BMW 650/800 twins. Perhaps our biggest concern is the fact that, although the design of the newer KLR is 'controversial' (to say the least !), Kawasaki did address many of the shortcomings of the original design, with better lights, more wind protection and better guages, so we find ourselves asking " what are we actually going to be offering" Both of the fairings for the original model completely transform the usability of the bike, which goes a long way to offset the cost. Would newer model owners really see that much of an improvement with another fairing ? we are still not sure. Please feel free to post this up on your forum, if you feel it helps answer members questions and thanks for the enquiry which we will add to the " get on and do it" pile !
