If I needed a new instrument panel, I would go with one of these.   http://trailtech.net/vapor.html I have heard good things about them. Scott,   Does your bike still have a warranty?  The spring preload adjuster can be known to break and this sounds like what has happened to yours.  The preload adjuster is available from Kawasaki (part no. 43094-0002 ) but then you still have the same risks of this part breaking too.  You could replace the whole shock with a used unit but these are known for having a very soft spring.  I sell several different springs that could make your stock shock stiffer or you could go with either the 420 or 465 series PS shocks, as these come with a very stiff spring.  The PS shock spring would probably be too stiff your weight.  If you wanted to go with a PS shock, I could swap out the stiff spring these come with for a softer spring that would still be much stiffer than the stock shock and spring.  The PS 465 series shock is actually a pretty good shock.  This shock has better damping control, better seals and a larger shaft to resist bending. Local dealer recommends I upgrade to Progressive [model 465 for the 2008 KLR]. I've read mixed opinions about the Progressive 420 vs. OEM model, but not as much info. about the 465. I'm 6', 160#, and ride 85% street, often with loaded panniers. It seems heavier riders prefer the aftermarket springs? As a novice rider, would I really notice the difference? I'm interested in any used rear shocks that would fit my bike. I lean towards finding a used OEM shock. Since this is my first bike, I'd like to ride stock until I learn more. But I'd also appreciate any opinions on options for repair and/or replacing the shock with an aftermarket version - as well as your experience with aftermarket shocks for post-2007 bikes.
