another battery charger...

Post by RJ Kochen » Sat Jun 12, 2010 10:24 am

I picked up a nice used KLR650 to further advance my addiction to motorcycling. The PO threw in his Walmart Schumacher battery "speedcharger". I have two other battery tenders but have no experience with Schumacher. Any opinions on this charger? If it doesn't charge more than 1amp and has a trickle feature once the battery's topped off, it should be okay. eddie

safe charging rate

Post by transalp 1 » Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:32 pm

Message The electrical savvy list members will have more detail & accuracy on the subject. But, I want to recall reading something about battery amperage divided by the voltage = max. safe charging rate. 1.5 amps may be a bit much, if just so.   eddie

another battery charger...

Makes me think he knew the battery was going if he tossed in a charger. There are different models of the "speed charger" but it can charge at 1 amp and auto switch to trickle should be fine, 2 amp would maybe be ok if you don't leave it on the charger too long I would think. If you already have Battery Tenders, get a SAE 2 way plug form your local Carquest and hook it up the battery and use the tender. My tender has SAE 2 Way connector so I can switch from it or use clips. Dooden A15 Green Ape
