Since we are ending the oil thread, I understand that every rider is entitled to to make their own personal choice regarding oils and that there is no right or wrong when it comes to oils, and we have to just respect each other's oil selection decisions and encourage each other to do their best for their bike with oil changes at intervals commensurate with their usage and preference, but I do happen to know my gearbox feels so much better with Amsoil 10w40 MC Synthetic and I highly recommend!!! But hey, onto more important topics, Speaking of Northern drinks, up north in Minn E Soata when the whitetails are in the rut, and the football season is in full swing and the leaves are down and your hoping for just 4 or 5 inches of whitestuff to cover the ground, good old Windsor Canadian and 7up in a tall cup with a few ice cubes is about as good as it gets in the woods. Not highbrow, not expensive, just good. Todd in Chaska, A16 Is it fall yet?

I personally like "Jack and Snow".  This is especially good in the summer, when you are at an altitude that provides the snow free for the scooping.  Avoid discolored snow, I'm just sayin'. Robert P. Fred-- Please banish this guy for the comment, "Is it fall yet?" We have yet to really see SPRING! and he is talking FALL. It was 49F with rain on Saturday--hoping to KLR East into the cities--and I had to take the cage (my lawyer's advice, "ARE YOU NUTZ--it raining") to Minn E Soata (Mn, MN) because some guy in Minn E Soata is doing a snow dance. cough. To add insult to injury, after arriving home, it snowed most all day Monday in the central Dakota's at a balmy 36F. (Secretly glad for dry hands and feet when I arrive home at 0015 on Monday.) I did those conditions 2 years ago--38F in snow, sleet, rain and high winds going West into White Sulfur Springs, MT; once is enough. One gleam of delight--if you can't listen to KLR tweety for 800 miles, then XM164 and intermittent wipers are a close 2d. It is also helpful to have Judd Jones feel sorry for you and buy you breakfast. I noticed he was smart enough to leave the bike parked as well.... Nothing better than KLR friends and hot coffee--even if it is just a morning of bench racing. revmaaatin.

That's about what I was going to reply with, although I am sure that many will disagree and say "high RPM on a KLR is higher than that", although peak torque is at about 5000 RPM and peak HP is about 6500 RPM. In leisurely riding, I shift around 4500-5500, if I want better acceleration, 6500+. The bike will run all day long at 6500 RPM but might use some oil in extended "high RPM" rides.
