I have just been presented with a dilemma.. My wife and I are soon to be empty nesters. In our younger years we took many short rides together. As time went on, she showed less and less interest in riding. When she would ride she was happy to putt along at 35-40 mph out in the country. As more time went on she stopped riding with me. In 2005 I got my new 2003 KLR (leftover stock). The KLR just doesn't have the room our capacity for both of us. Now she thinks it would be nice to start riding again. I just can't afford license tax etc. for 2 bikes. If she wants to ride with me, I will probably have to get rid of the KLR for a more roomy bike. I have just got the KLR setup as a perfect ride for me. Lots of upgrades. Mostly to the suspension. I would love to have my wife ride with me again, but the cost is going to be the loss of a very loved KLR. Woe is me, woe is me.. I popped onto ebay real quick. Maybe I can buy an old Universal Jap bike. The wife wouldn't ride one of her own. I need something for both of us. I do like having the wife ride with me. But I sure do not want to get rid of the KLR. She isn't going to ride uless it is 80 degrees out, so I have til next Spring, so maybe there is hope. Shop around the local dealers in your area. Make a day of , shopping for a used bike for her. Lower it, put a ~soft~ seat. Paint it pink if you have to. I wish I had an excuse to own two. It seems a lot of folks around here have a matched set of motorcycles, his and hers. You see the :harley & herley 's , the goldwingers , the beemers & beemettes. Why not a KLRetta?

Many suggestions to get my wife her own bike. Great idea for many couples, but my wife would never ride herself. She wants nothing to do with trying to ride a motorcycle by herself. My wife is a wondeful woman. Smart with the money, excellent housekeeper, great cook etc. But she is not the type I would feel comfortable turning loose on a bike. And she agrees.
