The D606s are miles above the K750s off road, and while not as smooth on road, they grip just about as well. The best set up I've found for off road worthiness while maintaining some semblance of road manners is the D606 up front and the Kenda K760 Trakmaster II on the rear. Mind you, I like to do some pretty hairy off road stuff including mud, sand, gravel, trees, rocks, etc. You may not need as much off-road traction as the above mentioned set up. Or for more off road traction, without the DOT rating, try a Michelin S12 up front with the Trakmaster out back. Stellar! I just put a Shinko 244 rear on my brother's KLR. It has a tread pattern very similar to the K270, but the edge knobs are "meatier" and they don't feel as "squirmy" when in an aggressive lean on the slab, at least to me.
The price is right, too. I've heard they can chunk knobs if you ride the slab with them aired down, though. The consensus is that you need to air back up to street pressure as soon as you leave the trail.

What size K270 Rear should I get? I see them sized at 4.60 and 5.10. My current is a 130/80 17. Looking at online conversion charts I see conflicting info. What size fits best?

5.10 fits, might get a slight rub on the OEM pipe at near full compression, but just enough to put marks on the pipe thats about it.
Yes it will have some wiggle when leaned, just consider it a early warning system that you are pushing a corner to hard.
Also my trick to new tires is mount them, put wheels back on bike and go find dirt/sand and play to get that slippery mold release stuff off them.

It's almost paddle like in the soft stuff but not too squrrely on road. I can't remember for sure now, but I don't think the Trakmaster lasts quite as long as the K270, but I prefer the traction so I make that sacrifice. I have decided to stick with the TKC 80 on the back, but what's the front? I don't know. Right now I have a TKC 80 on the front which is terribly scalloped. I'm thinking of going back to the stock K750 Dunlop or the Dunlop D606.
Got any advice? Front. Think Front.
Back, for me, is TKC 80. I love it.
