There’s oil leaking from the hole at the bottom of the water pump. Manual says it’s time for a new oil seal. ( Please, no gratuitous comments about blowing seals, lifestyles etc. ) Reading the manuals the job seems straight forward though time consuming. The cost of new parts is not overwhelming. Might as well, also, change the mechanical seal that keeps out the coolant while I’m in there; it cost only $12 or so. Looks like I’ll have to remove the engine cover. The left one has been off plenty of times; never played with this right one. Anyone have experience with this task ? Is there any tricky stuff I should be ready for ? The Kawi manual states that a special tool is needed to seat the seal but the Clymer manual makes no mention of that. Bogdan, who will appreciate any thoughts from the list’s wise men

As a service tech. I have rebuilt over 1000 pumps, (one co. thats all I did) while there is a speacial tool to center and hold the seal while tapping in, when one wasn't handy i found a socket & extension (ratchet wrench  type socket)  that was just a little smaller then the hole very lightly lube with the oil, grease it is holding in (or as the Navy taught us Engineman, EN. use goverment lube #1234, spit) and you have a flat surface to TAP, and install the seal EVENLY, all edges on the same TAP. take your time to go in straight, posision your self so you can SEE the seal (if it tips a little adjust your TAP) NOTE I USE THE WORD TAP!
