OK, the topic of power comes up fairly often. Has anyone ever looked into nitrous for the KLR.

Nothing ratical of course. Maybe there is a kit that would give the KLR an extra 5 or 6 ponies that could

come in handy at some unforseen time.

Oh, the piston is a forged unit, the crank is indexed with a heavier rod and ceramic bearing, head ported, with oversized ti intakes and SS exhausts, web cam, and porting. The exhaust is a very modified Lazer Pro with jet hot ceramic coating. This combo has already revved to 8500 rpm with no problem and could go to over 9k, but I don't want to press my luck. The stock rods in these are pretty stout, but the cast stock piston will not hold up to the revs, particularly NO2. I actually found a kit by NOS that is for single cylinder motorcycles over 250cc. It will give up to a 9 h.p. boost. I have to believe the KLR engine could take that. But I don't see it in my near future. It has  a $648 price tag. Ouch! I think we can put one together for less than that, if so, I will alert the list. Just think, open KLR drags at the MOAB.... I told a guy riding a KLR about this project at the Vortex in Little Five Points, Atlanta and he looked at me like I just pissed in his cornflakes, oh the purests of us all. We did test the outer limits of the KLR engine and when that thing came apart, it blow chunks out the inlet and exhaust. I think the only think usable is the cases and a few internal gears. BANG!!!! Rotella T or Chevron Delo 400 from the big gallon bottle, all summer long; Rotella T Synthetic (5W-40) from the somewhat more expensive big gallon bottle in the winter. The rate the KLR dirties up and burns through oil, anything fancier is a waste for many, many reasons. Thor

I would surely think it could be done cheaper also. The only time I would push the button, would be in 5th gear once the tach got to 5,000 just to feel the extra oomph for top end purposes only. The kit says it can be used once the engine reaches 2,500 rpm, and only if the throttle is wide open of course. I think it would be easier on the motor to wait for higher revs. Just don't let it [b]over[/b] rev. #ygrps-yiv-958247998 p {margin:0;}Rick, When I had my 16T sprocket on, with my tires, etc.  80mph was 5K rpm, almost exactly.  A little math comes up with ~120mph at redline. The problem with this is that at least around here on the grooved freeways, anything above 85 is a butt-puckering experience of wobble and instability...no amount of suspension adjustment will fix it.  The one time I was able to get it up over 100 was on a recently paved stretch of the 405 in the south bay and I reached an indicated 110 (with ~7% for speedo error for an actual of about 103 or so).  It was a calm and cool night at about 1AM, so conditions were about as perfect as you could get for a high-speed KLR run.  My brother was pacing me on his R1, and he let me run a little ways before he embarrassed me. I suppose if you were running street-y tires and had a smooth road you MIGHT be able to make it. -Jeff Khoury

There are a few roads in my area were I could easlily top the KLR out, and they are quite smooth also. At 120 mph, I would start to wonder about the tires holding up.
