klr 250 minimalist adventure update, tues evening
Listers,
RevMaaatin called me a few minutes ago, 9 pm mountain time, from
Lafayette, IN. Looks like that's about 100 miles pretty much south of
Chicago. He was going to Walmart with friends to pick up some sandpaper
and JB Kwik to patch his leaking gas tank. He discovered a pin hole
leak as he got to his place of rest for the night with some friends whom
not only have the low standards to let him stay overnight but also fed
him. Maybe they'll learn that once you do that strays keep coming back.
: ) I expect he'll be back on the road first thing in the morning. I
suggested he bring the tank with him next week when he'll be staying at
my place for a few days and we can take a good look at it and see if I
can't fix the leak with a permanent repair. He also did an oil change
and discovered there was more oil in the engine than was supposed to be
there. I didn't get a good read on how much but he said something about
there should only be 2 quarts and he got much more than that.
He's in good spirits and really enjoying the ride mentioning how it's as
much fun as the bigger bike but requires a little different riding style
with more shifting on hills etc.
He also said he spent about 4 hours in the rain yesterday
afternoon/evening and some of it was a torrential downpour. He decided
on a motel room last night instead of setting up camp in the rain. Seems
like a good choice to me.
More coming if I hear more.
Best,
Jeff Saline

As a tightwad extraordinaire, I would have slept in a picnic pavilion, rain or not. Glad his trip back is going generally well. Mark>...He decided >on a motel room last night instead of setting up camp in the rain. Seems >like a good choice to me.

I am not sure if I read it here, or another group, but it is a little
tongue in cheek.
99 percent of all HD's ever made, are still on the road......
The rest made it home to the driveway :>)
Couldn't resist !
