the wave.

Post by transalp 1 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 7:28 am

I had a Harley Sportster XL1200R and a Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 at the same time. The Harley guys might wave at the XL and would ignore the Suzuki. Sport bikers would wave at the DL but not the Sportster. Touring riders acted surprised when on either bike I waved and returned the friendly gesture by & large. Best short conversation I ever had with a Harley rider: Location - gas pump. My bike - A bright red Honda PC800 Pacific Coast with "Body By Tupperware" decals below the name. Me - Ballistic nylon armored jacket, full face helmet, proper riding boots,etc... Other rider - Non-D.O.T approved salad bowl helmet, T-shirt, jeans, chaps, black leather vest with "colors" & 200 patches and riding an acres of chrome Harley. . . . . . Him, " What kind of bike do you call that?" Me, "Modern." =) eddie

the wave.

I've noticed that locally (Columbus/Ft. Benning Ga.) that the returned wave comes about 75% of the time. Maybe the other 25% are too busy hanging on or something. I noticed Sunday on the KLR that when I'd pass a lone rider, he/she would probably wave back. If there were a group of riders, maybe 1/2 would wave tops. But, the passengers would almsot 100%. Maybe the girls are having more fun? Maybe they are the designated "waver"? Or they got a cursing at the next bar, "What'd you wave at the "crotch rocket for?" LOL eddie

I ride a DL1000 and a KLR650. I wave open handed and above the mirror where many of the Cruiser riders give the lowdown wave. keeping my klr but....nklr

No kidding, they are beautiful bikes! Here is a link to pictures of one such machine that lived with me briefly: http://bikepics.com/members/spacemonkey/76cb750/ I bought it from a guy that had it in his basement for 22 years. Being a Honda, I changed the oil, got a new battery, got the tank cleaned (he had left gas in the tank all that time), and she started right up. This bike lived with me for a year and I got her back on the road. I let her go to someone who could do more work on her than I. I'm really happy that she is out of the basement and back on the road! -Barron
