I'm all for safety, but why treat your battery like that?

Hyperlights are really bright and cool and all, but being thrifty... I spent about 7~8 bucks on a small LED marker light at Walmart, mounted it just under the rack above the taillight. Wired it up to brake light, of course its not as bright but by adding another brake light, traffic behind me can see another light has come on instead of blinking and missing the transition from tail to brake light. But again where I live is pretty rural compaired to big cities. (aka: drivers not quite so crazy) Dooden A15 Green Ape

How does the DualStar one compare to the eBay ones? It the stock tail light 1157? (I'm too lazy to go out into my garage and look... : ) The eBay ones spin when on, then flash when braking. $10 plus about 5 for shipping... ~Eric S.

SO I was thinking about getting the Dual Star LED module that someone told me about, till I saw the price. The blinky feature is cool, but I'm on a budget so i will probably go this route for a more reliable and longer lasting tail light in LED... http://www.4x4led.com/stt/1157.htm action photos: http://www.4x4led.com/tj/led/index.htm Doug

Looks like that one will probably be OK. Check out this one: 1157 RED 20 LED car truck trailer motorcycle bulb eBay Item number: 280087750519 Seller: tmiledtechnology US $9.95 US plus $6.55 US Postal Service Priority Mail I'm using an older design 18 LED version which I am happy with although it is slightly dimmer than a standard bulb. The new 20 LED should be brighter. Walt -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Doug"

I received and installed my LED tail light yesterday. I set it up to flash before the light comes on steady. The instructions say "off road only, not DOT approved for highway use." I like to keep my law enforcement encounters to a minimum. Has anyone been pulled over as a result of this tail light. Craig Kahler [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

[dsn_klr650] derestricting question

Here's the thread for those interested. http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45715 Best, Jeff --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Jeff Saline To: hortonhearsawho@...,colmooney@... I think that's why you probably don't know about them. I don't remember the entire thread but on the KLR650.net forums they talk(ed) about this issue in the last year or so. Joining that forum and doing a search might come up with some results. Seems there are more Aussies on that forum than here. I have had one set the same way for a number of years and never had an issue in a number of states and in Ontario. The taillights that catch the LEO attention in my area are the clear lens with the weak LED bulbs, and the smoked taillight lenses. Even with those guys it only becomes an issue when they are stopped for something else. Dan

Hi Craig, I'm a ham radio operator and I volunteer as such in support many public service events a year. These events are typically charity benefit events such as walks, runs, bicycle rides, marathons and the like. These events often cover courses of 5 - 150 miles, sometimes more, so there is often law enforcement support along the route and at intersections. I often support these events as a lead vehicle, using one of my highly conspicuous motorcycles. By that, I mean that the m/ c's I use for this purpose have Kisan pathBlazer headlight modulators, brake light pulsators (Brake! on the KLR) and Kisan Signal Minders, which turn the signal lights into running lights, as well as allowing them to flash in either a 4-way or wig-wag manner. During these events, I often interact with the LEO's and I am seen by many in passing. I have never been questioned by the LEO's about any of the light modes mentioned, although several have commented how they could see me coming for quite a distance, or about what a neat bike I have or other favorable comments. So, no, I don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the use of a Brake! LED taillight in the pulsing brake mode, as long as you are riding in a responsible manner (when seen by the LEO ;^) ). Besides, who cares if you are questioned about it on occasion if it helps prevent injury. The "not DOT approved for highway use" statement is probably just a liability CYA statement anyway.
