I have been thinking of trying a bumper rack for the KLR as it is pretty boring riding across West TX to get to the mountains. 400 lb capacity is pretty much on the edge for a KLR. I guess you should carry on this thing with an almost empty tank. The price is certainly right as it always is at Harbor Freight. Criswell

Northern Tool has one, though not aluminum, for $99 and it has a 500 lb capcity, much more suitable for a KLR. I might get one as I'm helping a friend move to Indiana this summer and with his stuff inside my vehicle, the bumper hauler would be a little bit better than towing my trailer. Yeah it is .... but a lot of West TX is a boring place ... not to mention tornados, lightning and such this time of year. Later on 104 degree days. I have done it. Numerous trips to Big Bend and Utah but the first 500 - 600 miles suck. I also want a lighter adventure bike. KLR is great for cross country and jeep roads but if the road gets difficult, 30 inch legs, 38 inch seat height and 6 gallons of fuel on an already top heavy beast suck. But all the KLR's competition except the DR is heavier. I can't believe manufacturers actually convince people that 450 to 500 pounds is sort of a dirt bike and charge them way a lot of money (i.e KTM Adventurer 990 and the BMW GS bikes). Criswell

You might want to consider the hitch weight on you SUV, truck or car.

Nice photo. At least they are playing our 'tune'. Now, what can we learn from this picture: It appears that this is an fine example of "just be cause it is doable, does not mean you should." The vehicle has a bad case of the squats. The illustrated tie-down is a recipe for disaster. I heard a Marine Colonel say one time (about his previous adjutant), The LT was not completely useless; we can use him as a bad example. This photo is not completely useless.... revmaaatin.

HF also sells small trailers, honestly I would buy a small trailer and haul my bike that way. Not to mention you can use the trailer for other things also. Dooden A15 Green Ape Just my $.02

Might load up Honda.com 267 lbs (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel-ready to ride) CRF230L Admit 230 is kinda small, but the bike felt good sitting on one at a dealer. Not that on a hitch hauler makes sense to me. Dooden A15 Green Ape
