klr noise

With the recent discussion of these parts, it got me to thinking of who makes these parts sold by the various vendors. Are all the aftermarket parts made by only Eagle M&E, or are there knockoffs being sold by some vendors, and who? I would think that would be helpful information to KLR owners. ED

I can't speak to who is manafacturing knockoff doo's however I can attest to the quality of product and support offered by Eagle Mike. This past weekend I changed the doo on my o7; 7611 mi; and while the stock doo was intact the spring was not. Upon reassembly of the doo it was ambiguious as to how the torsion spring was to connect to the doo itself. One of the fellas at the tech day called Mike ( On a Saturday) and he ansewered his phone. Go figure. My thought was that it was a waste of time making the call. Mike was not only avilable to converse with us but he gave us some additional information that is not avilable on the Leftcoast KLR web site. In my opinion the chances of connecting with a knockoff manafacturer on a Saturday are most likely nill. I would say forget the knockoffs and who is selling them. Insist on Eagle Mike products from your supplier of choice and if they can't or are unwilling to accomodate you simply move on! Jeffer

Agreed. Knowing who sells the knockoffs will help us avoid them; that was the point of my post. It would be helpful if we had a list of vendors who sold only genuine Eagle M&E parts. ED ED

If it doesn't say Eagle, it is most likely a knockoff. Mike is the only legit manufacturer of aftermarket doohickeys and torsion springs; the doohickey offered by MSM or Topgun is a 2008 Kawasaki OEM piece. I cannot comment on any other 'hickey or spring. I have been told by reliable sources throughout the lists that there are other suppliers that are selling knockoffs from offshore manufacturers., ie fork braces, choke movers, rear brake brackets to name a few. Fred was selling Mike's stuff, but I'm out of the loop with that. I can most assuredly state that Mike stands behind each and every product that he makes and is available at just about any hour of the day to help out anyone who asks. And for free. Mikey takes having been an Eagle Scout very seriously and that's how he has run his business from my viewpoint. I'm not with him everyday so I can't provide an airtight alibi, however, I have witnessed over the past 7 years that Mike is a very upstanding member of the KLR community. I messed up and responded to dooden I dont ever post on here only read can you pass it on to group I was asking about the difference in doos I have an original mikes doo that was lost but now found and a new one manufacted by STUDEBAKER MFG Inc They look and weight the same only difference is the new springs are a little darker in color same size eddie

Thanks to all for the support. Current sellers of Eagle balancer levers are Happy Trails, TPI Motorcycle Products, A Vicious Cycle in Canada, and you can also get them directly from me. There is a dealer in Kansas that also stocks a few from time to time. Eddie, I used to sell them to the company you purchased from. Studebaker is the knock off king of the KLR world. I don't think Mike sold any doo's or doo kits to Studebaker. I do know that Mike's doo's are made from a super wazoo heated treated stainless and they are virtually indestructible. From what I have seen on various bikes at recent TechDays, they (Studebaker) are not very good knock offs either. Seems to be the American way in business right now; rip off another man's idea and make it offshore. Political corollary; do ya think the US can maintain it's wealth if we import everything we consume?? $7 trillion to OPEC, tainted food stocks from China, selling productive farmland for housing developments...........a food chain that was 300 miles long ten years ago that is over 2,000 miles now. I had a similar rattle that I SWORE was coming from somewhere in the fairing area. On a pre-ride inspection I noticed the bolt holding the clamp between the head pipe and the muffler pipe was missing. Replaced the bolt ant the rattle was gone.
