Has anyone even seen one at the dealer, know the 08 was talked about forever before it came out, I had talked to the dealer about getting and 08 about (4) months before I got the call?

Search this forum, klr650.net, and advrider. The relative merits of the old school vs. the new wave have been hashed over ad nauseam. FWIW, I like my '98. If I ever thought I needed a fresher KLR, I would look for '07 or earlier, unless a great deal on a newer one came up.

Only reason IMHO to get the newer one is if you want the better headlights. Otherwise, it's all just KLR. And the older ones are cheaper and can (mostly) be brought up to the same spec as the new one (except for headlight) without a lot of money invested, so ... :shrug:.

If you ride mostly highway, the new fairing makes for a much more comfortable ride. If you ride much offroad and think you'll dump it, that same fairing is pretty vulnerable. __Arden

But adding on a Slipstreamer CF-30 windshield and Aerostich tank panniers will get you pretty darn good wind protection on the old model KLR, and the Happy Trails PD Nerfs do a good job of protecting the fairing on the new model (though if you do an endo, it's a goner, but then doing an endo on a KLR is not recommended in the first place . It's all KLR. It's all good, old or new.
