Very well put. I have a Honda Hawk GT that came stock with a rubber extension thing on the sidestand that was intended to catch on the ground and flip the stand up if you left it down. I always wondered if they actually tested that thoroughly, or if some engineer just thought it was a good idea. I know I wouldn't want to be the tester.

In my, uh, lessee, about 30 year riding career (gett'n old, dammit) I've known two people (not me) who had a finger amputated by lubing the chain on the centerstand, in gear, with the engine running. In fact, the second person lost a thumb the very morning after I explained to him the story of the first one, as a cautionary tale. Eddie was not the sharpest knife... - Dave Svoboda, Sandy Eggo

Listers do you know if there is any  Napa (or others parts dealer) radiator cap that will fit the KLR ? Thanks J-L [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

sidestand death switch

Most bikes will, when the rear wheel is not touching the ground, slowly spin the wheel with the engine running and in neutral. I never tried it with the KLR. Side Stand switch: In my lifetime, I have heard of, but never known personally, people who were seriously injured (or worse) when they forgot to put up the kickstand and rode off. The few (OK, lots of times) that I did it, I was rudely reminded when I made my first left hand turn. Never fell. Once, I rode several miles before I realized it was down. Dave Svoboda wrote:
