metric stainless steel cap head screws

Post by Gary » Sat Oct 20, 2007 7:51 pm

I just went around my 05 and replaced the factory fasteners with stainless steel cap head screws. Of course I did not replace the load bearing bolts with stainless....like for example the footpeg bolts. When you buy Desmo Parts KLR650 stainless steel screw kit it is a mix of button head fasteners and cap head fasteners.I dont like the button head fasteners so I emailed them and asked if they would make up a kit of just cap head fasteners. They would not. I have a friend who is a salesman at a local industrial supply house. I told him what was up, and he gave me a measuring device to measure fasteners with.I went around the bike ...taking the factory fasteners off and measuring them to see what I needed. When I had a list of all the stainless that I needed....I doubled my order. I also got grade 11 case hardened steel bolts for the subframe mounts. He charged me his cost...which was 10 dollars for everything. Regards,Gary

Make sure you replace the front brake master cyl. cover fasteners. I replaced everything (well, everything that's appropriate...) on my '01 with and those were the only ones that I had any problem with. There are a few under the tank that are easy to miss. There are also two (I think there are only two - could be three) inside the left side engine case. Once you get it all done the travel tool kit shrinks a bit. Chuck

COHVCO Tiger Team up Date The TIGeR Teams have had problems getting the Gap Inventory identified and GPS'ed. The problem seems to be the riders that know the Gap trails don't know computers and the riders that know computers don't know where the Gap trails are. This winter I am going to be traveling to Clubs (M/C,ATV,4WD) across the state To do training for the OHV rule. IF you want anything From ARVADA CYCLE call first ARVADA CYCLE will be CLOSED a couple days a week. No I'm not going out of business just trying to jump start the TIGeR TEAMS What I am hoping to accomplish is to find the Gap trails in the Forest Service inventory. My plan (subject to change) is to get trail Experts (M/C ATV, 4WD) to draw the Gap trails on a Forest service map. Then have a group of computer trained people check the trail against the Forest Service Data. Anything that is NOT on the Forest Service Data is a Gap and we need to go GPS the missing trails. This missing group of trails is what our TIGeR teams will GPS next summer. We have 76 volunteers. I am Starting with: 11-4-07 Fay's meeting hopefully will be trail experts from all over Colorado. Who will draw the Gap inventory on Forest Service maps. 11-10-07 In Leadville and Possibly Buena Vista NOHVCC meeting in Grand Junction 11-15 to 11-18-07 Many more local clubs as the needs are identified. If you have a club and want me to do a presentation at your club send me an e-Mail George Gangler george@... www.arvadacycle.com Arvada Cycle 10940 W 44th Ave Wheat Ridge Co. 80033 303-422-3957 PS: If you don't know what the OHV Rule and Tiger Teams are about see: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/recreation/travel_mgmt/ http://tiger.cohvco.org/
