My '89 is displaying "weak starter" symptoms. It can't turn the motor over in colder weather.
Kawi recommends 12 - 12.5mm for spec on the starter motor brushes. Since the brushes develop a concave surface from running along the commutator, where exactly do you line up your caliper? On the lowest spot of the concave curve? (Giving you a smaller measurement.) Or on the highest point on the outside, upper edge of the concave curve.
When measured on the lowest point of the concave curve, my brushes fall outside of spec. They measure anywhere from 10 - 11mm.
Anybody have experience rebuilding their starters? Kawi sells a carbon brush rebuild kit. Is it effective?
Am welcoming ANY starter experience/advice. Thanks.
