Me .. I draft semi trucks .. ala NASCAR! Actually, I just changed the gearing. up in front .. down in the rear. But beware .. a KLR with highway style gearing like mine .. won't pull a greased string out of a cat's butt .. the gear requires downshift to accelerate at anything other than a mild acceleration. I get a little better than 60 mpg in cruising at 45-55 mph. No mods. Most of the time it's in the 55 mpg range. I am pretty light on the throttle. There isn't much over 5,000 RPM that makes it worth going there. The 250 Super Sherpa gets around 70 mpg. If I want to go fast, I have other choices - the ZRX - but even that gets in the high 40s. hardyreels wrote:

I'm only getting 50 MPG, but then again I go 25 miles at 6,000 RPM twice a day, too. (Stock gearing, Michelin Anakee tires at 34 PSI.) -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/> San Jose, CA (USA)

Going up a tooth on the countershaft won't in itself make a bit of difference to your gas consumption if you continue to ride normally. Keeping your road speed below 50 mph will make a lot of difference. Whether taller gearing makes a greater difference at low speeds, I have no idea.

new hdt f1 engineering military only rear shock on ebay

Post by mystar_77 » Sat Feb 18, 2006 11:08 am

I have listed on Ebay a new, never used and very rare (in the civilian market) HDT F1 Engineering rear shock on Ebay. This is the shock designed and built by F1 and installed on all the diesel KLRs Hayes Diversified furnish to the Marines. It is a beautiful piece of work and the best rear suspension available for our KLRs. Please take a look at the F1 Engineering website for more deatils, then look at the 6 close up pictures in my auction: Search Ebay for "KLR650 military shock" - It will be the only one.
