It is time to replace the brake pads on my 2003 KLR650 (6000 miles).
My question is about the brake rotors. I cannot machine them like car
rotors, and I haven't seen any discard specs. Do brake rotors on the
KLR's need to be replaced whenever installing new pads? If not, how
do you know when to replace the rotors? Sorry for the lame question,
but this is my first motorcycle (bought it last summer). Thank you in
advance.

brake rotor question
The minimum thickeness (5.5 mm) is stamped into the rotor. 5.5 mm is .216
inches.

brake rotor question
In my experience, your rotors will last through dozens of pad replacements.
You shouldn't need to repace the rotors unless you have somehow managed to
damage them ( i.e. warping or badly scarring the surface).
Cheers,
Steve
