valve adjustment.

Post by Mike Peplinski » Tue Aug 02, 2005 2:36 pm

If we did everything the manual did, we wouldn't have any time to ride or any money left for gas. In general I belong to the "if it aini't broke, why fix it" crowd. Some things do get my attention though. One is the doohickey, but I'm not going to mess with the frame bolts. I've adjusted the idle to about 3 turns and it starts and runs better. Now there is this valve adjustment thing. I bought my A15 with 3500 miles and no service record. I now have about 8000. Is it advisable to get into the valves or perhaps I should wait for symptoms. Waddya think??

I would check them. You can do the checking yourself, it's not that hard. If they need adjustment and you don't want the hassle, take it in. Meantime, if you've got a tight one it's hurting your performance and self-destructing at the same time. __Arden

warning(virus check bypassed): nklr colonoscopy

Amen to that. My dad died of colon cancer. I'm another "mature" KLR rider at 57. My first colonoscopy 2 years ago was clear, but I'll be getting them regularly. I have a colleague at work, his wife died in March of colon cancer. Last week he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of kidney cancer, with a 5 year survival rate of just 2%. What are the odds? Both of them in their early 50's. Bottom line - heed this s**t - get those exams done. Safe riding Tim [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I think you should get a feeler gauge, 1/4" metric socket set and remove the side panels, seat, gas tank, valve cover and check them valves many detailed step-by-steps online. You did state "no service record" there could have been a tight valve that left the factory that way, all kinds of reasons why it could have left that way, and enough to check the valves, just for peace of mind. Getting the valve cover off is the worst part of the whole thing. IMO Dooden A15 Green Ape
