kaw thermo switch for fan question
Nothing you can see moves. Book list it going on at 201-212 and off at 196 F. Sounds about right. You can check to see if it is actually working by doing the boiling water thing with some leads attached. Suspend the switch so the leads are not in the water and attach an ohm meter or circuit tester to them.
David Farrell wrote:I am curious about the thermo switch that goes into
the radiator to turn the fan on. I have a Kaw Mojave
250 fourwheeler which looks pretty close in set up to
my KLR650. When I bought it, the thermo switch was
bypassed so the fan ran all the time. Previous owner
said the switch was bad.
I bought a used switch off ebay and ran it sitting
idle for quite a long time. All radiator hoses were
extremely hot. The fan never came on.
I ended up boiling water on the stove and when water
started boiling, both switches made a clicking sound
as if the switch was coming on. The copper sensor at
the end of the switch did not move in or out like I
thought it would.
Has anybody on the list experience with these
switches. Are they to move in or out. Both made a
clicking sound as water was starting to boil. They
may be good but this appears a little hot for these
switches to be coming on. A few seconds after pulling
them from water, they made a clicking sound as if they
were clicking off.
I don't want to risk burning this thing up. Any help
would be appreciated.

I always thought I would end up with a big, black, good looking,
American bike. Here I am
with a rather ugly, 350 pound, green, Japanese bike having an
absolute blast.Life's funny,
and I'm a happy boy. Happy 4TH, folks.
