Raz, Good pictures, thanks. Do the part numbers of the pictured parts match the Dec 99 Dual sport News recommendations per Elden Carl? I am going to order the parts off of the Kawasaki website, is that where you got yours? What do they run $$US? Brad A9

Brad, When I did the minnie (four part number) update that Elden recommended in the Dec 99 Dual Sport News, I bought the top four part numbers mentioned for $10.65. These parts looked like the ones in Raz' pictures. Richard in Tucson 94 KLR650 86 VFR750

spring. Since I've been an idiot many times (VBG) it might be well to confirm that the doohickey spring can be replaced with only the side cover removed.... Is this so? Changing the spring sounds like a fairly common practice even for some who have replaced both doohickey and spring with an after-market set. Norm

Maybe. The grips I got were the Dual-Star units w/ High/Low settings. These work without the need for a current reducing resistor. About $30 and were easy enough to install. On Low setting these draw ~17W and on High about 34W. High is usually TOO HOT. The vest will likely consume 70W. Perhaps less if you use a regulator gizmo like the heat-troller. The bike should handle the load, as long as your engine RPM is kept above say 3000, and you keep the standard 55W headlight, and you don't add any extra lights, or other power wasting devices. Also, replace the tail/stop lamp with the LED version to conserve power there. And replace the instrument lamps w/ LED versions. Tammy sells white LED bulbs for the 194s, and Dual-Star LED tail/stop lamp works great. Be sure to add a voltmeter or other monitoring device so that you can protect your battery. The bike makes just enough power, if you use it carefully. Of course, the AGM or Odessy type batterys may have a greater capacity and can withstand the ocassional deep cycling without being damaged. ttfn, MarkB
