speedo cable

My Speedo Cable kept on vibrating loose from the speedometer so I finally used some blue locktight to keep it place. Anyone else had this problem and how have you solved it? Kent J Kelowna BC

speedo cable

Hey all, I fried my speedo cable when it vibrated loose from the wheel and I ignored it (in a hurry), and it apparently hammered against the spokes, deforming the threaded fitting. Fred got me a very affordable replacement in record time (thanks Fred!) and I have two questions: What are people using to lube these? Is silicone OK or should I use something heavier? The OEM one had something pretty goopy in it. Second, should I use loctite on the fittings? The first one vibrated loose at both ends from time to time and I would like to end that. Thanks!

I use the same grease on mine that I used on the bearings, shafts, swingarm bolts, et al. Silicone would work, but just keep the thing lubricated. Just a slathering along the whole thing, pack some in the hole on the bottom, and tweak the connector with those nice pliers that Kawasaki gives you with the bike. Not too tight, not too loose. Just until it's snug has never loosened on mine. That cable moves at a pretty good clip, so some type of lube is your friend. millerized

My technique is similar to Millerized. I pull out the cable, spray coupious amounts of our beloved WD40 into the sheath, coat the cable with grease and slide it back in packing a bit in around each end. No lock tight for me just a snugg'n with the channel locks. --Jim A-15

speedo cable

On the way back from a ride yesterday, my speedo stopped working. When I got home, I noticed that the cable at the wheel hub end has backed out about a quarter turn. I tightened it up and took it around the block. Still didn't work. The I noticed that that cable at the speedo end had come out completely! Who woulda figured? I can just picture myself riding along and suddenly the cable coming completely off the bike. =:0 Cheers! Ira Agins Santa Fe, NM A16

OK, see, this is ridiculous. The latest digest has by FAR more NKLR bull-sh*t political trip and almost NOTHING about the KLR. For the sake of those of us who subscribe digest form, a plea. Leave your political views off the list. Can we kill this topic already? I mean, nothing intelligent is EVER said. Here's a thought, how about if it's not KLR related, don't post it here. We'd have no more need for NKLR cause everything posted would APPLY. A pioneering thought I know, but for those who don't have hours to spend sifting through the garbage, it'd be nice. Tim
