So many variables go into what makes a good tire good that it moight seem like a crap shoot, but its more like a chance to experiment and figure out what the truth is for you. I could recommend the greatest street tire, but if you don't go over 65 a so-so tire may be good enough. I could recommend a good off road tire but if you never go beyond the maintained dirt roads it would be overkill. What you want to do is find which tire provides the performance you need at the price you are willing to pay. You look at MrMoose, at the start of the season he was running street tires and loving it. Then he got a taste of the dirt and his preference has switched to where he wants two sets of wheels so he can have it all. Me, I want my dirt tire and am willing to give up some street prowess to run the dirt when the fancy strikes me. For everyday riding that has lead me to the IRC GP1 and for long distance touring, while its very pricey, I like the Sahara 3.
