The mic housing needs to be securely taped to your helmet, ANY bouncing around of the mic housing sounds like hammering an empty water jug. It's the camera setup from skullcamz.com. I originally got the complete setup with the Archos MP3 recorder, but the recorder has since been disassembled for salvage due to a failed USB bridge (got a nice 20gig Hitachi notebook HD out of it). The 8-AA battery array powers the camera (it has a heater to keep the CCD at a constant temperature). A few things I've learned- 1- Heat is the enemy of recording devices. Padding that protects usually holds in heat. I made a foamcor "case" for my camcorder, that works (hopefully won't ever find out the hard way) on the same principle as a helmet liner- polystyrene crushing to absorb force. Since taking the photos, I found an AV cable with a 90deg connector, so I no longer need the "wing" on the foamcor cover to protect it. 2- Tape is more reliable than a hard disk, because when the tape drive fails you have everything up to the point where it quit. With a hard disk, you lose the entire video file that's still open (being recorded), and possibly lots of other stuff. So get a camcorder that has an AV in, and firewire jack for mini-DV output. The "20 hours of recording time" claim for the MP3 recorder is useless since you'd have to be nuts to trust that much footage to a single open file. Since you're stopping anyway, just stop and change tapes once an hour. 3- Get the BIGGEST battery that they sell for the camcorder. It's far less bulky, and more reliable (no external connection), than the powerrunner external batteries. 4- The mini-DV camcorder tapes are actually MUCH easier to work with than the AVI files off the MP3 recorder I was using. The AVIs required lengthy processing through two other apps before I could use them in iMovie. But the camcorder plugs into the computer, you just rewind the tape to the beginning , click "import", and go do something else while the tape copies to your hard drive. It's broken up for you into 2gb clips, ready to edit. Devon

Devon, You were absalutely SMOKING that DRZ. That is, of course, inapropriate since every one knows that KLRs are NOT real dirt bikes, especially around here! I saw you take that Big Fat Green Bike several places that Mr.DRZ feared to tread. I have one of each and I'm impressed at what I saw, since I ride both over the same trails and know the diferance in how they feel. What kind of tires are you running? It's gotta be the tires........ ken
