carb issue - looking for solutions

Hello all, I have a 1999 KLR 650 with 6000 miles on it that I purchased last December. Ever since I've had it I've experienced the following problem: Scenario - driving thru city streets in 3rd gear at 30-35 miles an hour. Problem - when coming to a stop light and squeezing in the clutch lever the engine kills. Apparently flooded. It takes a good while to start it with the throttle wide open and the starter going in 5 second bursts. Sometimes it lasts thru the light and I have to crawl over to the side of the road like a crab with a broken leg. Not cool. One solution: If I run the bike on the street in 2nd gear at the same speeds, running around 4000-4500 rpms (and vibrate myself like a good 'thumper' owner) the problem does NOT arise. I'd prefer a different solution. Any other suggestions to solve this problem would be much appreciated. Thank you, KEN BARMORE Madison, WI
