Just bought a used KLR. It needs a new chain. Could someone advise on what to buy and where? A 520 106 links, right? Any other related advice is welcome. Thanks

I think this outfit has a decent price and good service: http://rockymountainatv.com/wc.dll?wwrmatv~type_name~0003981760~CH~CHAIN~DID+520+X%2DRING+Chain~~~ You'll need a 520 106 link, and it comes w/ a master link. which really suprises me... since DID bicycle chains are crap. i ran an RK chain on my last bike after using up the factry chain... had good performance and life from that. i'm still dubious about the DID that the PO installed on my KLR. fixer KLR A1 Lost Wages, NV --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Torst" wrote:

With all the talk of chains I figure it is a good time to get the info I will need when my time comes (at about 8000 miles now, so plenty of time). I was checking the above site to figure out if they would charge me tax and/or shipping and when I put this chain in the "cart" they added "Mini Chain Press Tool for 520 chain" for $19.99. This would seem to be a good price. Anybody know if this one works well enough or if I should get that ~$30 one from that other site recently mentioned? -- Doug Herr doug@...

That tool worked fine for me on clip-type master links. Does anyone here use a non-O/X-ring chain on their KLR? I'm considering trying an RK heavy-duty non-O-ring chain.

Todd, are we going to ride soon, or ??? Also to all Las Vegas DS guys... Nice - now DID is being slammed. Fuc# my ankle, - I'll over-buckle up and we ride! Todd, are you doing the Harley ride, or do you want to find out if the pass is clear? I bet the pass is blocked, but why not check?? Last call fixer - Wheeler pass checkup, or a Harley ride to Mesquite. Your head cover is remounted, of course? Mike Torst Las Vegas

One thing I'd suggest is upgrading to a progressive front spring first. With the stock spring, the KLR will dive for the ground with the stock brakes resulting in an awe-inspiring nose-down attitude guaranteed to make you an eunoch as your passenger slides forward and rams your family jewels into the gas tank (EEeeoow!). I'd hate to see what would happen with a 320mm rotor too. -E
